Cross country rounded up our 2 day clinic at Gunnamatta, and luckily for our group the persistent drizzle and rain had stopped in time for us. We started up trotting and cantering in circles on a flattish part of the undulating property the clinic was held on. This went we were still going up and down hill while maintaining a consistent rhythm and keeping the horses balanced and forward. This was then translated to doing the same across jumps, again making use of the excellent footing and the undulating land. With Occy the main thing was to keep him going forward into the jump over the last three or so strides without backing off. He worked better going by himself without having to take care of not getting to close to another horse in front of him. This meant I could concentrate on the forward without just rushing him into a jump. But for a horse his size he was quite balanced, but it was harder work for him to get his back legs underneath himself on some of the downhill jumps
Attached is a video of Occy and myself in the dressage lesson with Megan the day before which went well. We concentrated on trying to establish a more consistent contact and frame by keeping Occy straight while asking him to bend and maintaining outside contact at the same time.
