LATEST: A fall at fence 20 on the Greenwich cross-country course meant Clayton and Bendigo were eliminated from the event . Both horse and rider are believed to be unhurt.

Lucinda incurred 38 penalty points and finished over the time limit when Flying Finish missed an obstacle. At the end of the day she was placed 42nd in the rankings.

Clayton and Bendigo were inside the time limit and looked to be having a good ride when they reached obstacle No.20, the Royal Greenwich Borough.As they came down the steep slope, Bendigo’s hind legs slipped and he fell.Neither horse nor rider were injured, a team official said.

Australia are out of the medal positions after a disastrous day .They are down to three riders, with Sam Griffiths and Clayton eliminated from the competition .With only the show jumping to come, Australia have dropped from second to sixth in the team rankings, with Germany in first place.

Team Fredericks had made a brilliant start on day two of dressage in the Olympic eventing at Greenwich Park yesterday, with Lucinda 7th and Clayton 10th.

A day after Australian teammate Andrew Hoy on Rutherglen briefly held the bronze medal position, Lucinda and Donald Reid’s Flying Finish leaped up into tied fourth place.   The pair scored 40.00 penalty points to lie just outside the medal positions, with Germany’s Ingrid Klimke and Sweden’s Sara Algotsson Osthold leading the way. Lucinda later dropped back to seventh place as more riders completed tests.

Clayton and Edwin and Peta McAuley’s Bendigo had another excellent test, coming into seventh position with a score only slightly behind Lucinda’s, 40.40, later dropping to tenth.
